A new day, a new iOS

webmaster Updates

For those of you who have iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads, I assume that your heart must be pounding with excitement for the next release of iOS, iOS 7, coming out this Wednesday, September 18. And if you are planning to upgrade, then good for you, because I have designed the AUS mobile site to feel right at home alongside iOS 7. Take a look at the uncanny resemblance here: On the left, you have the General Settings screen. On the right, the mobile site.

Unlike the full desktop site, which features rich, colorful 3D elements, the mobile site is a boiled-down version with none of that. It presents what really matters, the content, in a clear and glanceable format. It’s simple, minimal, and clutter-free. The menu has been redesigned to be finger-friendly, with large, easy-to-read type.

If you rely on the home screen to switch between websites, then you are in luck. Like many other mobile sites, the AUS site is compatible with iOS home screen icons. It takes three taps to set up, after which the site is just a tap away.

When you tap on the icon, the site will not load in Safari, but rather as an app. It will appear in the app switcher as a recently used app so you can get back to it at a moment’s notice.

As always, if you need any help with the site, don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope you enjoy the mobile site. Happy updating!
