AUS Executive 2014-2015

The seven AUS executives comprise the AUS Executive Committee and oversee the day-to-day governance and operations of the Society. Feel free to contact any of the AUS Executives if you have any questions about their portfolio or are interested in getting involved!

Ava Liu, President

U2 Honours Political Science, Minors in Philosophy and Communication Studies

Dear Arts Student,

Welcome to another year at McGill! You should think of the Arts Undergraduate Society as your student-run support system. We organize Frosh, administer your student fees, provide services (such as the AUS Essay Center and the French Conversation Circles), represent you to the administration, and always try to advocate on your behalf. As President, I am responsible for serving as the AUS’ official spokesperson. I also lead the AUS Executive committee. I feel like it was not long ago that I was a first year trying to navigate lower field. Today, I still feel as energized as ever about the possibilities of studying in the Faculty of Arts at McGill! If you have any questions or concerns, please send me an email at any time! I’d love to chat!

Li Xue, VP Finance

Hi friends! I’m a second-year student double majoring in Economics and Computer Science. My friends describe me as a very adventurous, wry person with awful puns. I love travelling, cooking, and (pretending to know) bartending.

I’m very excited to be your VP Finance this year! My primary goal is to create avenues for Arts students to pursue the initiatives they are committed to. For example, a few things I am pursuing with the Financial Management Committee include: increasing financial literacy for Arts students, creating an investment portfolio with surplus funds to reinvest in AUS programs, turning around the balance sheet of Bar des Arts, trying to form a (somewhat) rigorous theory of Samosanomics, and expanding the operations of SNAX. Anyways, if you’re looking to get involved, shoot me an email! If you would like to share any cringeworthy jokes, I welcome those as well!

Max Drabkin, VP Communications

Fellow Arts students! My name is Max Drabkin and I’ve happily been tasked with the job of being your VP Communications for the upcoming year. It is my responsibility to make sure you are up to date with everything the AUS is doing, whether it be Frosh, Elections, BDA, or any of the other events we’ll be hosting, you will be notified by me in some way about what the AUS is up to. Going into my fourth year as a major in

Economics, I’ve loved my time here at McGill and I look forward to this being the best year yet. This year, my main goal is to establish a media department within the AUS by providing photography/videography services available to students, whether it be renting camera equipment or getting chances to film actual events. Too often I find Arts students wishing they had more creative outlets available to them, only to not have the services in place for such a thing to happen, and I aim to take a step towards fixing that. Be on the lookout for the first ever Arts frosh after-movie this year along with a few other surprises our executives have planned for you. Here’s to a memorable year, cheers!

Lola Baraldi, VP External

Hey friends! I’m Lola, and I’m your Vice-President External for the upcoming academic year. Needless to say, I’m extremely excited about getting to know as many of you as possible and/or providing events, resources and opportunities for you to get involved within the arts community! Hold up – what do I do exactly, you may ask? The VP External basically liaises the Faculty of Arts and its students to everything that lies beyond it. I’m here to help strengthen the ties between our faculty and other campus groups and associations (such as SSMU) as well as the Montreal community.

No matter what your interests are, there is something in my portfolio that should be relevant to you. Want to get involved in the community and volunteer? Check out the Arts Community Engagement (ACE) committee, that’s what we’re here for! Interested in your career opportunities? I’m here to raise awareness of post-graduate prospects, giving you the relevant information and tools for you to get a better idea of what your options are, with annual events such as Grad Fair or Work Your B.A. I also work with AUS sponsors and strive to obtain the partnerships from which us students benefit the most. If you have any ideas of groups you’d like your faculty to get involved with (whether internal or external to McGill), any charity you’d like us to assist with ACE, or if you wanna chat about any random topic of your choice, drop by the office and talk to me, I’d love it! It’s going to be a great year, cheers!

Hey all!

As your VP Academic, I’m responsible for coordinating the representation of all Arts students to the Faculty of Arts, overseeing AUS academic resources such as the Essay Centre, and liasing with the Arts Internship Office, OASIS, the Library, and other services for Arts students. I sit on a number of Faculty committees, chair the Academic Affairs and Library Partnership Committees, and oversee the the allocation of the Arts Student Employment Fund. This year, I hope to better integrate various AUS and McGill resources to improve collaboration, referrals, and your holistic educational experience – everything from essay-writing to mental health. Johanna Nikoletos, VP Social

Hey party people!!

As the Vice President of Social affairs, I am responsible for social and cultural events for Arts students, building an Arts community that extends beyond classrooms and lecture halls. From our most popular events like Frosh, Oktoberhaus, and Bar des Arts to community events like ‘Stache Dash and the AUS Film Series, the Social portfolio aims to engage Arts students and provide an outlet for us to meet, mingle, and make memories!

Throughout my term as VP Social, I aim to create more institutional memory in the portfolio by implementing structures that encourage involvement and provide opportunities for students to build their resumes and gain amazing experience. With Arts being the largest faculty, there are many challenges to creating a close-knit community, but I also believe that our size is an asset and can provide us with many unique opportunities. Uniting our diverse faculty is a challenge that I look forward to taking on, and I can’t wait to meet you all at our events this year!

If you have any ideas for events you’d like to see happen, want to get involved with event planning or my standing committees, or just want to chat in general, feel free to email me! You can always find me at Bar des Arts every Thursday in the Arts Lounge (LEA B-12), hanging around the AUS Office, at Gerts, and pretty much at any social event on campus. To get updates about upcoming events, make sure to “Like” the Arts Undergraduate Society and Bar des Arts on Facebook, and feel free to add me to get updates and invites!
